Cover Lay Down

Cover Lay Down is a more recent (as in the last year) music blog discovery for me.  Unfortunately, he's having difficulties with Blogger so I'm not sure whether it will stay up or not.  I definitely hope it does! 

Cover Lay Down has folk (and more) covers of all sorts of songs.  Wonderful writing and wonderful music to listen to. 

Some of my favorites:

• Lucy Kaplansky singing "Goodnight, My Angel" (by Billy Joel) and, one of my favorite performances of hers, Robin Batteau's Guinevere.  Also Eliza Gilkeyson singing Nanci Griffith's "Midnight in Missoula"

• James Taylor covers (lots of them!)

• Rainsongs: Folk Covers for a Stormy Night

• John Gorka covers - which includes two versions (studio and live) of one of my all-time favorite folk songs, Stan Roger's The Lockkeeper.

Aurgasm

Another of my favorite music blogs is Aurgasm:  your favorite music you've never heard.  As the blog says:

Aurgasm brings to you an eclectic menagerie of aural pleasures. I scout out music you've never heard and deliver only the finest. Expect music curiously different, yet simply enjoyable.

I always like finding new music.  Today's songs are not totally new since we have a CD of The Weepies, but it's nice to see them on a blog since they're not well-known.  Click here to read about the Weepies and listen to two good songs.  Other recent reads/listens include Lefties Soul Connection (raw funk/soul), Urbs (nujazz/downtempo),  Smolik (electronic/downtempo), and Samsara Sound System (persian illibient/worldbeat).

Keep the Coffee Coming

One of the first music blogs I started reading/listening to is Keep the Coffee Coming.  She posts folk music during the week, and all sorts of things on the weekends - plus interesting musings about life.

Some of my recent favorites:

• 45 Years From Now by Stan Rogers - one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers.
• " I've a grand memory for forgetting"
• Wood River by Connie Kaldor - a little known (in the U.S.) Canadian folk singer.
• Home by Sally Fingerett (with Cheryl Wheeler, and Jonathan Edwards) -  Three good singers and a thoughtful song.
• Carey by Joni Mitchell - Another favorite singer.
