Decorating with Seasonal Depression
January 07, 2010
This is what happens when two color-starved gardeners with seasonal depression go into a kitchen store on the second shortest day of the year.
We're still using the white, Correlleware plates that dear husband got when he was cooking for himself in college. We've wanted to get new dishes for a long time, but we hadn't found any that we really enjoyed. Most sets are not colorful enough.
Dear husband showed these colorful plates to me at Kitchenworks in Chapel Hill while we were finishing up our Christmas shopping. He smiled regretfully at me and said, "We shouldn't buy them, right?" I smiled back, non-regretfully, and replied, "Happy early Anniversary!"
Dear husband also bought an orange cereal bowl from this set.
And...
What happens when a color starved gardener with seasonal depression wanders around Target while waiting for an H1N1 flu shot on a cloudy day after a string of cloudy days in mid December:
Colorful towels are one of the things that I use to help keep me cheered up in the winter - particularly when dear husband is out of town. The light blue towel is currently up in the master bathroom, and the orange one is up in the other upstairs bathroom. Dear husband should get back at about midnight tonight (by the way, if you haven't seen it, go look at how he made sure he could find his suitcase)[Actually, he's back now. I wrote this yesterday afternoon.]
In November, I realized that I was saving the few colorful towels for when dear husband was gone, and I was only using the less colorful towels when he was here. That's not a good idea - remember, his blog is named Color Sweet Tooth - so I was glad to find some more bright towels to use all the time.
I almost never go to Target, but I was glad to wander around there this time. Oh, as you can see by the backgrounds, we also like colorful, French tablecloths (top)(some bought at a wonderful store in Blowing Rock, De Provence et d'ailleurs) and colorful blankets (below).
Delightful! We have the red and green towels from Target. I love them, they are so cheery. They share space with some other reds, purples and yellow. All in a bright blue bath.
Those plates are really cool.
Thank goodness for color.

Love the plates. I recently bought a whole set of bright deep red ones that I love using this time of year!
In the summer tho' I need quiet cool colors to balance all the heat outside so the red plates are too much for me...

Thank you for getting more bright towels. Every time I wash up in our bathroom I reach for the towel with several strong feelings making me grin. One is that the towel is to pretty to wipe my hands on - clean or not. Another is that I want to take it off the ring and put it over my whole face, like I was diving into it.
