All over again
November 17, 2009
For the first few months after my last knee surgery, I couldn't drive at all. I finally got back to driving as much as I want or need to (which has been a lot the last week). I couldn't squat for any length of time for quite a while. I actually squatted down long enough to scrub the bottom of the shower last week (no, it didn't get nasty before that, but I don't care for using Clorox because it's bad for my asthma). I couldn't kneel for Communion until last Sunday. I finally can really stretch out my right leg - put my foot on the fourth step up on the stairs and basically rest my torso on my thigh.
I still have pain, I still have stiffness, and I can't dance or do aerobics. I wouldn't want my knee to be like this for the rest of my life, but it's difficult to think of going back to the beginning again. The last time I had surgery, the physical therapists kept saying that if it really hurts, I should pull back and rest. I really wonder if I had pushed through whether the scar tissue wouldn't have developed the way it did. I'm going to be a lot more aggressive about asking questions this time around.
