Saturday Fun Song: "In Dulce Jubilo" performed by Liona Boyd
December 27, 2008
Liona Boyd's A Guitar for Christmas is another one of my favorite Christmas albums. One of my favorite pieces on it is this arrangement of "In Dulce Jubilo." Go to the album link to hear a clip.
I hadn't known the story behind this carol before. From the Wikipedia:
The original lyrics, a macaronic alternation of Medieval German and Latin, is thought to have been written by the German mystic Heinrich Seuse circa 1328. According to folklore, Seuse heard angels sing these words and joined them in a dance of worship...
...J.S. Bach wrote a chorale prelude around this carol for organ (BWV 729), and it is traditionally performed as the first organ voluntary at the end of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College, Cambridge.

[By the way, I've added a new category: Divas. Yesterday's post on my favorite actresses went in that category, and so does this post. Take a look at her website - definitely a diva (I like the seagull).]
