[Picture of older son, dear husband, and younger son on one of our favorite trails at the Cone Manor in the NC mountains.]
It's a good thing that dear husband has moved the celebration of birthday from his natal day (December 18) to April. In April, you can grill out, people can give you garden things for presents, and the Christmas rush is far in the past. Also, in April, hopefully, he won't be spending a major part of the afternoon trying to get through to the doctor's office on the phone in attempts to get a new painkiller prescription because I'm having reactions to the other one (like today). And, hopefully, he won't be comforting me every night at 10 pm when I get discouraged (except tonight. We watched "Love, Actually.").
He's been taking wonderful care of me (as have older son and daughter) even when he's been sick. Today would not have been a good day to celebrate his birthday; I hope whatever day he picks in April will.
However, so as not to let the day go by unmarked (because I am so lucky (blessed) that my mother-in-law gave birth to him 48 years ago):
Reminds me of the time we took our son to Disneyland for his birthday. (Fifth, I think) the first ride we went on was Alice in Wonderland and as we were exiting, he told the attendant that the ride was wrong because it was really his birthday.
We were directed to the firehouse where we got a special sticker that got us nothing in the way of perks but everyone who worked at the park went out of their way to acknowledge his birthday and congratulate him.
It made him feel very special and added a lot to his enjoyment of the day.

Happy birthday to the man who knows how good he's got it and knows how to treat you right!
I hope things smooth out with the painkillers.

Alex: I'm glad he spoke up! That's a fun thing for them to do.
DCup: (Grin) I'm lucky! Things are better today - and I'm making it on ibuprofen alone (so far).
