Tony Performance of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood"
October 05, 2007
When I was putting together the post on Jerry Orbach, I found a wonderful video on YouTube where he performed Beauty and the Beast's "Be Our Guest" at the Academy Awards with a chorus line of waiters and can-can ladies. I was going to put the video on my post, but, unfortunately, it was removed from YouTube the next day.
I'm eventually going to write about Rupert Holmes, who won Tony awards for both the book and the score for The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which is one of my favorite musicals. However, just in case this video gets taken off (it obviously was originally taped on someone's VCR back in 1986), I'm going to post it now so you can see it. It's the performance of the opening song, "There You Are," and "Don't Quit While You're Ahead" from the 1986 Tony Awards (the cast includes Betty Buckley, George Rose, Cleo Laine and Howard McGillin):
