From WRAL-TV:
U.S. Families Have More TVs Than People
Threshold Crossed Within Past Two Years
NEW YORK -- The average American home now has more television sets than people. That threshold was crossed within the past two years, according to Nielsen Media Research. There are 2.73 TV sets in the typical home and 2.55 people, the researchers said.
We're bringing the average down. We have five people in our family and one TV (and not a big one at that).
Same here. 5 people, 1 dog, 1 TV. Actually it's not even really a TV, but a Proton "video monitor", bought in around 1986 or so. Works fine; we use it for watching DVDs and videos only, as of turning off our cable reception a few months ago.

We are getting rid of cable too---I can't wait!! I hate tv---well, I hate wastng my time watching it. I really don't need it and could totally live without it.
We only have one tv and five people as well! I think it is because we all homeschool and are not the "normal" American type. Just an observation.

We have time to watch movies once or twice a week, but we just don't have the time to keep up with TV shows. And, on the occasions that I do channel surf, there's not much I'm interested in watching anyway.
