"There is a Redeemer" - Melody Green

When we used to go to the 9 am service at the Episcopalian church (a more informal service), we would occasionally look at the songs they planned to sing at the 11 am service and wish we were singing them too.  Today, at the 11 am service, I had that feeling in reverse.  At the 9 am, they had sung "There is a Redeemer" by Melody Green.  I hadn't heard this song in years (but I pulled out my record to listen to it when we got home).  The words aren't fancy, but it's a beautiful and very worshipful song:

There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God's own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.

Jesus, my Redeemer, Name above all Names
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, O for sinners slain.

Chorus:
Thank You oh my Father
For giving us Your Son
And leaving your Spirit
'Til the work on earth is done.

She wrote this song almost thirty years ago, and her husband, Keith Green, recorded it on his 1982 album "Songs for the Shepherd" (Which you can't listen to on Amazon, but you can listen to the song on Keith Green:  Ultimate Collection).

We were able to see him in concert in 1981(I think) at Dorton Arena in Raleigh - a wonderful night of worship.

He and their older two children tragically died in a plane crash in 1982, which I'm always reminded of when I sing the last verse of this hymn:

When I stand in glory
I will see His face
And there I'll serve my King forever
In that holy place.

He was only 28.  I was only 21 in 1982 so that seemed very mature.  Now, it seems so young.

Melody leads Last Days Ministries, which they both started in 1977, and she continues to write and speak.

I love Keith Green!
KG's music has influenced me more than anything else on the planet almost. I have listened to him for so long. He has also influenced me as a musician, to be very honest and real in my lyrics. Actually, I'd be honored if you'd check out my music on my site. Its very, "Keithish."
Thanks for posting,
-Sean
