Daughter said that, when this song first came out, it was all over the radio (so much so that she got tired of it). So, it makes sense that I heard this song first at aerobics. It's one of the instructor's favorite cool-down songs. It was a worldwide success, but, for the few of you who haven't heard it, here's a live version:

She enjoyed singing for schoolmates and teachers (and even the nuns) at her Catholic school but in the second grade was rejected for the school choir because her vibrato was too strong. The music teacher told her that she sounded "like a goat".
Shakira is well known for her dancing in various music videos and in concert. Her moves are based on the art of Turkish-Arabic belly dancing, a part of her Lebanese heritage (her father is Lebanese). She knows the power of her feet and often performs barefoot. Shakira says she learned this form of dance as a young teen to overcome her shyness.
