Someday, I'm going to write a longer post about Gregory Hines. He was one of my favorite performers. Here's a 1979 performance of "Simply Full of Jazz." Gregory Hines was thirty-three, and Eubie Blake was 92.
Eubie Blake started in vaudeville and wrote ragtime music (and later, jazz). He co-wrote the musical Shuffle Along which was the first Broadway, musical hit written by African-Americans. His most well known song is "I'm Just Wild About Harry" (Blake and Hines' performance here).
In 1979, Gregory Hines won a Theater World Award (and was nominated for a Tony) for his performance in the Broadway musical review Eubie!
